The Changchun Film Group invited the Asian Film Commissions Network Board of Directors to hold their
Assembly in the city of
Changchun,
China's Jilin Province.
Members of the AFCNet Assembly from Japan, Korea, Malaysia and China discussed the organization’s efforts to attract
international filmmakers to the region and unanimously agreed to hold a
forum of decision-makers on film policies for governments in the region during BIFCOM 2008.
The AFCNet members were also invited to attend the Changchun Film Festival being held during the visit. Co-Vice President
of the Asian Film Commissions Network, Deborah Gabinetti (Bali Film Center, Indonesia) was honored to join China’s
renowned Director, Yu Tien Ming, in presenting the Best Director Award to Xu Geng for his film "Heart of Ice," which also
garnered awards for Best Film Music (Zou Ye), and the Golden Deer for Best Film, which was presented by AFCNet
Chairman Park Kwang-su (Busan Film Commission, Korea).
The festival was first held in 1992 and was founded in part by the Changchun Film Studio (now the
Changchun Film Group Corporation).
The festival is funded in part by the Ministry of Radio, Cinema, and Television, the provincial government of
Jilin, and the
Changchun municipal government. The festival awards Chinese and other East Asia-region films.
"Good Man" actress Ma Yili accepted the Best Actress award at the star studded awards ceremony for the 9th Changchun Film
Festival. The stars arrived to a huge crowd of applauding fans as they walked the time honoured red carpet into the
ceremonial venue.
