Java

The island is incredibly beautiful, particularly in the western and central regions, where rice fields, palm forests, plantations and volcanoes shape the land with population over 115 million people

Capital of Indonesia

Jakarta

The colorful dynamic capital of Indonesia is a densely populated cosmopolitan city (pop.10 million). The city is aptly known as the Big Durian (people either love or hate this delicious but foul smelling fruit).

  • Incredible beaches Carita and Anyer: white sand and swaying palms with the ominous smoking cone of Anak Krakatau looming on the horizon
  • Krakatau (the famous volcano which erupted on the 26 August 1883)
  • Ujung Kulon National park: this park covers the southwest point of Java. Here on the densely forested peninsula, live the last Javanese rhinos. There are also monitor lizards (smaller cousins to the Komodo Dragon), grey macaques, peacocks, rhinoceros, banteng cattle, leopards and unique Javan crocodiles
  • Taman Safari – Bogor: a well-tended African style wildlife park, which may be traversed in your own transport or by park bus
  • Kebun Raya Cibodas: a high altitude branch of the Bogor botanic Gardens
  • Gede Pangrango National Park: on slopes of the volcanoes of the same names with unique tropical mountain flora and native mountain forests
  • Borobudur Temple:
the world largest Buddhist monument situated on a hill on the Kedu Plain, 42 km to the west of Yogyakarta, is the best known of the hundreds of stone monuments from the early classic period of Javanese civilization. Built between 780-850, it was restored between 1975-1984.
  • Ratu Boko Temple:
is an archaeological site known to modern Javanese as Kraton Ratu Boko or Ratu Boko’s Palace. Ratu Boko is located on a plateau, about three kilometres south of Lara Jonggrang Prambanan temple complex in Yogyakarta Indonesia.
  • Mount Bromo:
sheer green cliff faces enclose a black sea of sand (laut pasir). Four small peaks rise from the center of the floor of the caldera three of these are lushly overgrown, the fourth and the best known, mount Bromo is a smoldering mound of ash and ciders.
