Taboo – Beyond Productions (Australia)

Stories to be featured are the Bissu of Sulawesi, commonly termed “gender transcendent” or as “having a ritual role” these people have extreme powers of healing and sought out for their spiritual awareness. The show will also explore the traditions behind Cockfighting in Bali

The traditions behind the ritual of cockfighting in Bali were explored for the television series Taboo (National Geographic). In addition to filming at Serongga in Gianyar the ceremonial events surrounding the practice, shooting took place in Garba Cave at Tampaksiring the site of an ancient cockfighting arena where interviews were conducted with a Hindu Priest and the Village Chief. The BFC team were able to overcome the language barrier by interpreting Sanskrit/Hindu/Balinese for the Beyond Productions crew.
