The Bali Film Commission (BFC) is now actively promoting Bali and Indonesia as locations for international documentary and features films produced by world-class producers and directors.
Members of BFC recently attended the Busan International Film Commission, International Film Festival in South Korea from Oct.7 through Oct. 9. During the meeting, the Commission set up cooperation with numerous filmmakers and producers.
BFC secured a Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) television feature titled “Something that Happened in Bali”, as a direct result of last year’s attendance. Coproduced by GMM Films (Jakarta), the networks highest rated show proved an excellent showcase for Bali as a filming location offering experienced local technical talent.
In addition, meetings with Julia Fraser of LeBrocquyFraser Productions (2004 Golden Globe Award Winner Osama) resulted in collaboration on a feature film based on Joseph Conrad’s first novel Almayer’s Folly. Set in Indonesia, the film will be directed by U-Wei bin HajiSaari (Kaki Bakar un Certain Regard Cannes 1995).
Bali and Lombok are currently hosting director Marc Esposito (LeCoeur des Homme) filming his feature Toute la Beaute du Monde (Pierre Javaux Production), starring Marc Lavoine and Zoe Felix.
In conjunction with BIFCOM, Pusan International Film Festival and Pusan Promotion Plan, BFC is currently forming strategic partnerships for a world-class production facility on Bali.
As a member of the newly established Asian Film Commissions Network (AFCNet), BFC, along with 18 other Asian film commissions are promoting greater training and professionalism in the region in an effort to attract international film projects.
